Two trees next to our driveway fell down in a wind storm on Tuesday, 12/18/18. They were far away from our house, luckily, but one small one fell on our neighbors to the front, and the other (MUCH BIGGER) tree fell out towards the street and landed on the wires across the street, snapping 5 utility poles in a row and taking out power for a large segment of the town, including 3 of the schools.

Very proud to note that the mailbox I installed survived the tree falling on it, and is STILL STANDING! (Look carefully in the picture above to see it…)

We were without power for most of the day – it was restored around 7:30pm. On a 20 degree day, we were happy to have a well-insulated house, where it was still only down to about 60 degrees when the power came back on. We also were not able to drive anywhere as our driveway was blocked until about 4pm. I’m glad we live in a walkable town!

We spotted the truck with replacement telephone poles while we were sitting and eating breakfast at Muffin House.

They had to drill pretty deep to insert the new poles!

Halloween lanterns came in handy when it started getting dark and power had still not been restored!
